Curious ART to revive your playful, creative side

“Isaac shook with rage, not noticing the runes on his arm beginning to shift and change. Barlow’s ears rang as he felt himself losing control, he tried to speak, but the words caught in his throat. What escaped his lips sounded inhuman.”

🗯 ADRIÁN (OP): Hey! You might know by now, that you can talk to us about all kinds of nerdy stuff… So, of course, comic books won’t be left in the gutter!
🌀 SFX (Portal): WUUUMMMMMMMMM
🗯 ADRIÁN: Okay, not all of us have collections like Dani, but the extraordinary ART of storytelling panel-by-panel is super close to all of our ink-dipped hearts. Now, let us point the tail of this word bubble at interesting artistic interpretations of the comic style we all love.
🟨 CAPTION: Do you have an indie project or an artist in mind that we should include next time? Share them with us by sending me a message (or replying to this email.) We will spread the word about cool indie art anyways…
Let’s observe out of curiosity and the love to learn or even mimic like Omnimorphs.
1. 🎨 Drawing: KOTERI INK
“Soroush Barazesh aka KOTERI INK is the artist behind the comic series “Kings of Nowhere”, which currently consists of 2 volumes and the 3rd is on it’s way. If you enjoy classic animes like Cowboy Bebop or Afro Samurai and the vibes of the Grand Theft Auto series mixed with some badass fighting scenes, I think you’ll really appreciate these comics, it has it all. Saroush is a super inspring artist, who works constantly on improving his craft, learning new things all the time. Recently he even stepped out of the digital medium to work more traditionally with pen and inks on paper, which somehow creates an even bigger magic around his artworks. An end goal for him is to have a TV show or movie based on his comics, which I reckon is highly feasible with the world building he has done so far.“

2. 🎮 Gaming: Hades 2
“The sequel to the mother of all indie games, is finally available in early access for over a week now. It felt right to include it in this current comic-themed collection, as one of the (many) appeals of the original and its newest installment too, is their original art direction and graphic style. Its beautiful hand-drawn environments, stylized and entertaining visual effects, and whacky comic-style depictions of the gods of Olympus all serve as a testament that passion is what it takes to truly stand out, even in an industry dominated by large AAA studios.”

3. 📖 Book / 🎥 Movie: Tales from the Loop (artbook, TV series)
“I think the main reason, the 2015 Kickstarter for the English version of the book raised over $320,000 is the unique nostalgic vibe of Stålenhag’s paintings. The special combination of the 1970s setting and mystical machines makes the series a worthy watch for visually inclined individuals. The story, however, may have been original in the 2000s but now it falls quite flat. Nonetheless, I recommend diving into the world of the Loop on screen if a retro-futuristic Scandinavia is your thing, and for the stories, I think it’s better to stick to the narrative artbook.”
