Welcome back, Traveller,
You just bought a pack of your favourite trading cards, it’s sealed and oh-so-shiny. What’s in it? Please, be a rare thing…
Scroll to open our imaginary package and enjoy lesser-known gems from the internet’s nerdy side.
Here comes the collection that is based on the topic of our latest newsletter.

We explored…
Why we need masks, totems, secrets, and myths?
Where have they gone? In other words, what’s the atheist nerd’s religion today?
And how generations mutated their own pop cultures.
If you’re keen to dip your toe into these topics, there’s a link to our previous post at the end.

🎨 Drawing: zeenchin
“Let’s start our list with possibly one of my favourite artists, Zeen Chin. I love the range he works in, from “simple” inks, to highly rendered, super colourful and vibrant illustrations. I hardly see anything I don’t like from his portfolio. Zeen Chin also released an artbook a few months ago, so make sure to check that out if you enjoy his work!”

🎨 Drawing: Seung Gue Lee
“Next one of my list, is Seung Gue Lee, a relatively unknown artist whom I found a couple of weeks ago. Reminds me of a previously recommended artist, Piotr Jabłoński with his dark themed paintings, but has a bit of extra layer of spookiness.”

🎨 Drawing: Sam Carr
“Now let’s jump from frightening, to friendlier but still eerie artworks by Sam Carr, who has an ongoing project titled Eternal Ruins. I love that he released physical collectibles of his iconic statue, it looks amazing!”
Dani
🎨 Drawing: Gerald Brom
“My final recommendation is a well known artist, Gerald Brom, who has an amazing skill of portraying how nightmares feel like.”
Dani
🎨 Drawing: Frederic Pillot
At first glance, you may find Pillot’s work quite classical. And you wouldn’t be far from the truth. He is actually painting on physical medium. I didn’t even believe it as the shapes and layers, and colours blend seamlessly and with such high fidelity that I thought his process was digital. Amazing craftsmanship and intriguing style induced with deep myth.

🎮 Gaming: Sea of Stars
“Sea of Stars is a charming JRPG set in a world full of myth and wonder. It draws heavily from the genre’s 90’s classics and features beautiful nostalgic pixel art.”
Huba
🎮 Gaming: Ravenswatch
“Ravenswatch is a co-op indie roguelike with, with beautiful visuals, strong world-building, and a highly entertaining gameplay loop, that is the trademark of the genre.”

🎮 Gaming: Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus
“Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus is a beautiful 2.5D action platformer set in a rich world inspired by Japanese folklore.”

🎥 Animation: Nocturna
This is worth mentioning not only because of the unusual myth surrounding its story, but also the style. I have never seen a dream so creatively explained.
🎥 Animation: The Son of the White Mare
Seems, I cannot go without recommending something from the Eastern block of Europe. This masterpiece is a classic in Hungary. It’s a mythological folk tale with psychedelic art style. Wonderful colourful creepiness and alien shape language.
🎥 Animation: Hilda and the Mountain King
If you haven’t heard about Hilda, you probably don’t have a kid. I haven’t got one either, but I am a kid, so I watch any animation that comes my way. I instantly fell in love with Hilda. Cute characters, heartwarming stories and Scandinavian folk mythology.
🎥 Animation: Mune: Guardian of the Moon
It’s been a while I watched this French animation, but I clearly remember how surprised I was about the uniqueness of the story. It’s depth hides behind quite a generic Disney-Pixar-esque style, but it’s worth the watch just for the world the creators enchanted with their magic.
